How will a Third COVID Wave Affect Commercial Cleaning

Government advisers and a large number of scientists say a third wave of COVID-19 infections is inevitable in the UK. While the ministers have not confirmed any radical plans for the autumn, many have admitted another closure cannot be completely ruled out. Be it a partial one. So, in the event of a serious third COVID wave, how will this affect commercial cleaning?

Higher Demand for Disinfection Services

A full national lockdown is unlikely, based on the information that has been shared in the media and during official press conferences. The vaccination programme is deemed to be a huge success in the UK, so the government plans to let business stay open for as long as this doesn’t cause significant trouble for the NHS. Of course, one of the conditions is that all employers provide a safe working environment for their staff and they take all necessary precautions to minimise the risk of COVID transmission in the workplace.

This will increase the demand for regular disinfection services from commercial cleaning companies. In addition, post-COVID deep cleaning and sanitisation as a new service will see an increase in bookings. More people are going back to the offices and although a large proportion of the population are now fully vaccinated, the risk of infection and spreading the disease remains. After each positive test of a staff member, the employer is obliged to close down the work premises and arrange professional deep cleaning and disinfection. It has been happening a lot during the summer and as the predictive curve goes, we expect many more daily booking enquiries in autumn.

Cross-Contamination Control Training

Commercial cleaners had to adjust their working practices since the pandemic began in early 2020. It is an absolute requirement for any cleaning company to send their employees for cross-contamination control and specific virucidal and antibacterial products use training. At the beginning, many commercial clients did not know that cleaners must have new professional training certificates and they didn’t require proof of such. However, after many failed attempts to provide quality and effective cleaning service, a lot more employers are now looking for companies that are fully licensed, well-trained and can prove their professional expertise.

A third COVID wave will see the most forward-thinking cleaning businesses rise above the competition.

More Frequent Regular Cleaning

Deep cleaning and disinfection are meant to be one-off services. In a new significant rise of COVID infection and no national lockdown, employers will have to arrange more frequent regular cleans for their commercial settings. If previously offices were professionally cleaned once a week or once every other day, during the pandemic this needs to become a daily arrangement.
