6 Surprising Waste Items That Can Earn You Money

November 15, 2018

If you’re like most people, then you probably throw away things that could be sold and turned into money. But before you get too excited, don’t expect to make a fortune by selling waste items (unless you’re a recycling centre). In most cases, you will get only a few pennies per item. But why throw away things that can earn you a pound or two?

Wine Corks

Here are a few of the most common waste items you probably didn’t know can earn you money:

Toilet roll tubes

Surprised? Well, it’s true! Believe it or not, but they are actually selling. As much as up 20p per roll! However, there is a catch. If you want to get anything for your empty toilet roll tubes you need to sell them in sets of 25, 50 or 100.

Kitchen roll tubes

Yes, empty kitchen roll tubes are being sold as well. And people are actually buying! The prices are very similar to those of toilet toll tubes, while the key is to sell them in sets.

Tin ring pulls

This is another thing that usually ends up in rubbish bin even though it can earn you money. It’s not a huge amount of money as they typically sell at 1p per piece but then again, a pound here and a pound there can add up quite a decent sum.

Wine corks

Yep, you can make money from old wine corks. And old wine bottles too! How much depends on several factors including whether the cork is natural or synthetic and things such as engravings. Believe it or not, but some corks are actually collectible and as a result, they are highly sought after. Unsurprisingly, these are much more valuable than non-collectible corks which most often go for about 10p per piece.

Empty perfume bottles

Got pretty empty perfume bottles? If so, there is a great chance that you can turn them into money. How much depends on the perfume in question but some bottles can reach as much as £20! This is because some perfume bottles are considered collectibles, while some are desirable for other reasons, most often their usability for arts-and-crafts.

Old buttons

If you want to make money from selling old buttons, it may be worth to bear in mind that the older they are the better! Vintage buttons tend to be collectible and therefore, they can be quite valuable, especially those predating the 20th century.
